5 FUN WAYS TO CURE (to make someone well again after they have been ill) BRAIN BURNOUT THAT REALLY WORK

“My brain is fried.” Ever say that? Me too. My job requires serious brainpower, and after a long stint of hard work sometimes my brain just burns out. The problem is that usually when this happens I still have a lot of work to do – work that also requires serious brainpower. I can’t stop working, but I also can’t keep spinning my wheels. If you think about your brain like a computer, think of brain burnout as needing to close out and reset.

There are a lot of different ways you can reset your brain. Meditation, Yoga, and exercise are great ones, but when you’re at work you usually need other/ quicker options. Here are some fun and somewhat scientifically proven ways I like to cool my brain down when it’s overheating that work well:

1. Shake it off

Shaking your shoulders, your limbs (hand), or your head from side to side is a form of meditation (the practice of emptying your mind of thoughts and feelings, in order to relax completely or for religious reasons) that literally allows you to shake off your tensions (nervous) and reset your mind. Don’t whip your hair back and forth, Willow, do it right.

2. Close your eyes and listen to stand up comedy (involves one person telling jokes alone as a performance)

Closing your eyes and focusing your mind in any way is a great way to reset, but listening to stand up comedy is even better. Laughing increases blood flow, relaxes you, and lowers cortisol levels. If you don’t like to laugh, please consult a medical professional. (Also works with music and guided meditation)

3. Do a headstand

Reversing the flow of gravity by inverting your body causes heavy blood flow to your brain that brings fresh nutrients and oxygen. Headstands also have a long list of other health benefits, and they make you look cool.

Here are instructions for how to safely do a headstand.

4. Call your Mom, and just let her talk

Hearing your Mother’s voice releases oxytocin and lowers cortisol (in most people). It will also allow your brain to cool down by only having one simple thing to focus on. This also works with grandparents, significant others, and anyone else you like who you can count on to talk a lot. Closing your eyes during the conversation will bring added brain-resetting benefit.

5. Play a game of billiards

Billiards uses all four lobes of the brain, but doesn’t strain your brain with complex thinking. It allows your mind to relax and focus while enhancing your ability to concentrate. It may also allow you to train for something you can beat your Dad in.
